Fiona’s Thames Path Walk 2019

Fiona Mackey, at a very sprightly 79, describes herself as ‘having aged slightly’ since she last completed a fundraising challenge for the BMA. In 2016 Fiona walked 62 miles along the Thames path, in aid of our appeal, and now apologises for her forthcoming walk being a meagre 49!

Fiona speaks about her latest fundraising challenge:
“During the summer of 2019 my forthcoming sponsored walk will commence at Henley-on-Thames and continue along the Thames Path, past Windsor Castle and Runnymede to finish at Hampton Court. I am hoping to raise more money for the Bhopal Medical Appeal; one of my favourite charities. It is my intention to complete the walk during seven individual days, throughout June and July. Happily, as it is possible to travel to and from each stretch of towpath by train from my home, my contribution to global warming will be comparatively modest.

“Apologies for having aged slightly! Now I’m 79, a mile seems rather longer than it did, so I plan to cover 49 miles rather than the 62 in 2016!

“Friends and other kind people have generously supported my fundraising events in the past, and I am very much hoping that, similarly, this event will raise much-needed funds for the Chingari Trust Rehabilitation Centre which does so much to transform, for the better, the lives of many of Bhopal’s disabled children”

Fiona’s route, from Henley-on-Thames to Hampton Court

Fiona has raised funds and awareness for the BMA over many years. One of her most notable challenges was an epic journey on her reliable Brompton bicycle, all the way from Dieppe to Versailles, back in June 2013. A special ‘thank you’ goes to Fiona, on behalf of the Chingari children she is so dedicated to helping, and from all of us at the BMA for supporting our appeal so steadfastly over the years. We wish her much luck with this latest challenge.
