Mohammad Umar is 2 and half years old and one of the youngest registered children at the Chingari Rehabilitation Centre. Mohammad was registered at 8 months, with his diagnosis confirmed as developmental delay. Attending the centre daily, Mohammad receives tailored support from staff at Chingari with a specialist patient treatment plan.
Staff at Chingari developed a physiotherapy and speech therapy plan as Mohammad displayed poor neck and truck control, delayed motor milestones, and limited postural stability. With his incredible determination, Mohammad is now able to move his neck freely, sit independently and roll around without pain. As part of his speech therapy, Mohammad can now swallow without chocking, move his tongue freely and has significantly reduced his drooling; all major improvements from his registration in 2024.
Mohammad loves playing with his family including his aunty, his favourite family member. His father works as a labourer, while his mother brings him to Chingari for treatment. A third-generation gas-affected child, Mohammad’s grandparents were exposed to toxins from the 1984 Union Carbide disaster.
