THE LOSS OF ONE OF BHOPAL’S GREAT SHINING LIGHTS

(Hazra Bee inspiring Bhopal activists in Dehli, 2008, following a 500 mile foot march from Bhopal)

It is with great sadness that we report the loss of one of Bhopal’s great shining lights, Hazra Bee. Hazra died suddenly en route to hospital after having great trouble breathing.

Hazra was only 28 at the time of the Bhopal Gas Disaster. She suffered with asthma, severe chest and joint pain and fainting fits.Despite this Hazra was a stalwart of the campaign, always on the frontline campaigning for justice for survivors and leading the women of Bhopal’s fight with fierce determination and inspiring resilience. She was a true activist and refused to give up, in the face of overwhelming odds, the fight for clean up of the derelict factory site and clean water for all those it continued to poison. She will be sorely missed
