Over the past four years, we have been involved in the cultivation of a unique red rose, named ‘Flame of Bhopal’, and are now pleased to announce its launch. Our rose commemorates the thousands harmed by the 1984 gas disaster, while its name evokes the resilient spirit of the survivors whose struggle for justice features many prominent and powerful women. The Flame of Bhopal will be available to all our friends and supporters and is ready now, for an Autumn planting.
The Chingari Trust is an all women’s trust and their rallying cry, which inspired the name of the trust and, now, the name of our rose, crystallises their determination and courage;
“Hum Bhopal ke nari hain,
Hum phool nahin, chingari hain.’
(We are the women of Bhopal.
We are flames, not flowers.)
