Sambhavna 23rd Anniversary Exhibition: Possibilities in Compassion

On October 14th 2019, the Sambhavna Trust held an exhibition, ‘Possibilities in Compassion’, a tale of ‘the unique story of human sympathy’ to mark their 23rd anniversary at Swaraj Bhavan, Bhopal. The exhibition was inaugurated by Mr. Prasenjit Mund, Resident Editor of the Time of India.

As well as telling the story of the disaster itself, the exhibition focused upon how funds are being raised and utilized in providing free medical care, research, community health care and other facilities to tens of thousands of people poisoned by Union Carbide in Bhopal.

Display boards at the exhibition detailed the contributions made by nearly 30,000 people in the UK who have funded work at the Sambhavna clinic through their contributions to the Bhopal Medical Appeal. These included reports on the various activities and fundraisers organised by you, our supporters, over the last 23 years. Highlights include the yearly litter-picking at Glastonbury Festival, the funds raised by our Runners for Bhopal at the London 10k and other running events, and the Yoga for Bhopal program, as well as countless other fundraisers and events. It also featured individual profiles on a few of our most dedicated supporters and fundraisers, many of whom have been with us since the earliest days of the charity.

The event was very well attended and proved to be a great success. Being a public event, it was an opportunity for the people of Bhopal to see what an amazing outpouring of support there has been over the years from our donors here in the UK. We are proud that our supporters can be found among almost every demographic and from all walks of life, and that sympathy and compassion continue to transcend barriers of nationality, age or circumstance.
