35th Anniversary: Chingari Children’s Clinic Exhibition

From 1st to 3rd December 2019 the Chingari Children’s Clinic held an exhibition at Iqbal Maidan in Bhopal to mark the 35th anniversary of the disaster.

The exhibition featured striking black and white images of children and other victims of the poisonous gases and toxic groundwater emanating from Union Carbide’s abandoned factory. Recent studies show that the rate of children born in Bhopal with congenital disabilities and other health problems is more than seven times higher than elsewhere in the country.

The exhibition also featured information boards detailing the various forms of treatment offered at the Chingari clinic. These include physiotherapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy, as well as other more specialised forms of medical care. The clinic also provides educational support for registered children, as well as free meals and a pick-up and drop-off services at its new expansion. The clinic is run by its two Managing Trustees, Rashida Bee and Champa Devi Shukla, who were jointly awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize for their work in Bhopal.
