TEDxWarwick 2018: Dare to Defy.

TEDxWarwick’s 2018 event ‘Dare to Defy’ will feature a range of speakers including the BMA’s, Tim Edwards.

‘Celebrating its 10th anniversary, TEDxWarwick honours those who have revolutionised our society and continue to do so. Those who have redefined ‘the possible’. Those who have taken risks and acted against the norm. Our aim is simple: to spread the ideas of these daring individuals and to inspire you to go beyond the ordinary. This year, we choose to outclass the orthodox, surpass the standard, and challenge the conventional. Will you join us? We dare you.’

Tim Edwards is Managing Trustee of The Bhopal Medical Appeal. Tim cycled to Bhopal, in 1999, and having been inspired by the strength and determination shown by the survivors has been advocating on their behalf ever since, advising on the social, legal, environmental and medical complexities of Union Carbide’s disaster.

Tim will share some of the forgotten parts of the Bhopal story along with his journey in building an organization, aimed at caring for those still enduring horrific illnesses from the man-made chemical disaster.

What is TEDx

TED is a non-profit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 26 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. At TED, the world’s leading thinkers and doers are asked to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes.

TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.

In the autumn of 2008, Kunal Amin, a final year student at the University of Warwick, approached TED about organising an event at the University. The request was granted, and Warwick hosted one of the very first TEDx-like events in February 2009. Since then TEDxWarwick has been held every spring, growing in scale and depth year-on-year. Having been held in lecture theatres in 2010 and 2011, the conferences have been held, since 2012, in the internationally renowned Butterworth Hall, located in the Warwick Arts Centre.
