Bhopal Medical Appeal at TEDxWarwick

TEDxWarwick is one of the oldest and most established TEDx events having been running continuously since 2008. For this year’s event, TEDxWarwick 2018, we were lucky enough to have BMA Executive Trustee, Tim Edwards, invited as one of the speakers.

In the words of Surabhi Nagar, a part of the content team helping deliver the event:

“This year’s TEDxWarwick conference themed ‘Dare to Defy’ celebrated 10 years since the TEDxWarwick organisation began. TEDxWarwick is one of the first as well as one of the most successful TEDx events in the world today. This momentous anniversary called for an event with a range of spectacular and engaging speakers. The event included 14 talks on topics varying from Fake News, Artificial Intelligence and Climate Change, to Street Violence, Gender Stereotypes and the Bhopal Gas Disaster. The talks incited a spectrum of responses from the audience. Tim Edward’s talk on Bhopal left the 1200 seater auditorium in tears. His talk revealed the incidents of the horrific night of 3rd December and the years of suffering that have followed it. While no speech can ever encapsulate the pain of the Bhopalis, Tim did complete justice to his 18 minutes on the stage. Not only did he manage to inform the audience about the disaster, but he also made them feel for it. Tim’s talk inspired the university students to do their bit in fighting unfair MNC’s and empower the marginalised.”

While listening to Tim, one attendee was inspired to produce a ‘mind map’ and, hopefully within the next week or two, we expect an official TED-authorised video of the talk to be available.
