‘The world is against them’: new era of cancer lawsuits threaten Monsanto & other glyphosate manufacturers including Dow Chemical

According to the Guardian: “In an historic verdict in August, a jury ruled that Monsanto had caused a man’s terminal cancer and ordered the agrochemical corporation to pay $289m in damages. The extraordinary decision, exposing the potential hazards of the world’s most widely used herbicide, has paved the way for thousands of other cancer patients and families to seek justice and compensation in court.”

Although Monsanto’s glyphosate products may have become the cause célèbre it is worth remembering that other chemical companies have also been happily producing these poisons for decades. Dow Chemical has been a major producer and, according to a Research and Markets report ‘Global Glyphosate Market 2017-2021’ is identified as one of the 5 key vendors for that period1

The report forecasts the global glyphosate market grow at a rate of 6.72% during that period but also acknowledges the ‘challenge to the market’ of its harmful effects, including its toxicity to humans.

When will these chemical companies begin to acknowledge the ticking timebomb under their current business model?  A corporation is only as good as the (perceived) strength of its stock but who on Earth would invest in any of them now with this kind of potential liability stacking up day by day?
