Giles Clarke, Bhopal Portrait, 2nd Place, Head On Photo Festival

Photo shows Sameer Hassan, 16 years of age, with his mother Wahida Bee. Sameer suffers from severe cerebral palsy with profound mental retardation. His father was exposed to Union Carbide’s toxic gas at the time of the 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy.

This heartbreaking photo won second prize in the 2016 Heads On Photo Festival in Sydney, Australia and our congratulations go to Giles for yet another award for his recent Bhopal series of pictures.

Giles’ Bhopal work has been nominated for and, in some cases has won, various awards. You can see his World Photography Awards nominated photo at at Somerset House, London from 22nd April – 8th May. It will then be published in the annual Sony World Photography Awards book.
