Mumbai, Mar 1 (PTI) Taking a serious note of the deaths of two pregnant women allegedly due to the contaminated drinking water, the Bombay High Court today observed that such things can lead to a Bhopal-like tragedy. “All is not well in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and if people die after drinking water it might lead to a greater mishap like the Bhopal Gas tragedy”, said the division bench of Justices P B Majmudar and Amjad Sayed. The Court was hearing a PIL which raises the issue of the death of two pregnant women allegedly due to illnesses resulting from drinking contaminated water at Worli in central Mumbai last year. “Mumbai should not be turned into a second Bhopal,” Justice Majmudar observed. The Court further remarked that illegal water connections were being set up as a result of scarcity of water in the city. “BMC needs to be more careful and think before granting water connections to new buildings mushrooming in the city,” the bench said. The corporation informed the court that an offence has been registered in the case of the death of two women and that necessary action would be taken. The court today adjourned the hearing till March 11 directing the police to appraise the court of the investigation so far.
