Covid-19 Update: Last Week in Bhopal

Every week in Bhopal, Community Health Workers (CHW’s) from Sambhavna and teams of Community Health Volunteers (CHV’s) from local neighbourhoods screen local residents for Covid-19 symptoms, refer those who test positive for treatment, and carry out other essential community health work for survivors. Last week, beginning October 5th, teams of Community Health Volunteers screened nearly 150 residents in 10 neighbourhoods for coronavirus. Here is all the work they achieved specifically related to Covid-19:

  • 146 individuals displaying symptoms were screened for Covid-19
  • 15 patients were referred to the Sambhavna clinic for treatment
  • 3 patients displaying more serious symptoms were referred to local hospitals for Covid-19 treatment
  • 100 ‘What to do until next rainy season’ posters offering advice for coping with Covid-19 were put up in multiple neighbourhoods

Additionally, the following essential health work was carried out by Community Health Volunteers in these 10 neighbourhoods last week:

  • 39 local residents were taught home remedies for self treatment during lockdown
  • 79 people were prescribed medicines for existing health conditions
  • 54 people were prescribed ayurvedic treatments for existing health conditions
  • 49 people were prescribed herbal remedies for existing health conditions
  • 74 people received health training on Tuberculosis from CHV’s
  • 13 people received health training on anaemia from CHV’s
  • 11 people received health training on dengue fever from CHV’s
  • 10 CHV’s were trained in thermal scanning
  • 8 CHV’s were taught to measure blood pressure
  • 25 houses in Annu Nagar were tested for the presence of mosquito larvae; larvae were discovered and removed from one house to prevent the spread of dengue fever and malaria
  • 15 households received deliveries of herbs for home remedies
  • 5 new Community Health Volunteers joined the program
  • 6 new residents applied to become Community Health Volunteers
  • 3 people received counselling at Sambhavna for family planning
  • 1 individual received counselling at Sambhavna for a domestic issue
  • Meetings were held between Community Health Workers from Sambhavna and the Community Health Volunteer Teams from the Nawab Colony, Annu Nagar and Adarsh Nagar communities
  • Information was gathered by CHV’s to ensure that local residents and volunteers can receive their ration slips during lockdown periods
