A sad day for the Bhopal campaign

Kaneeza Bee

It is with an immensely heavy heart that, today, we must announce the passing of two friends in Bhopal. Kaneeza Bee, shown in the photo, was the subject of our newspaper appeal around the time of the 31st anniversary in December. The appeal began: ‘By the time you read these words I may be gone’ and went on to tell the story of Kaneeza’s family, the losses they suffered thanks to the gas tragedy, and the further pain and illness they have endured thanks to the ongoing contaminated water disaster. Kaneeza herself was diagnosed with cancer, around three years ago and has, sadly, now succumbed to the disease.

We have also been informed of the death of a child registered with the Chingari Trust Rehabilitation Centre. Suraj Pratap Singh suffered from an extremely severe spastic cerebral palsy and has also passed.

It is a very sad day for us and all of our thoughts will be with the families of Kaneeza and Suraj.
