Bhopal Runners tackle Hackney half marathon

The Bhopal Medical Appeal Running Team goes from strength to strength as two of our runners tackle the Hackney Half Marathon.

Owen Pugh and Gareth Flemyng, previous runners of the London 10k on behalf of the BMA, became our first entrants into the Hackney Half Marathon just yesterday, the 10th may. Both runners did extremely well, coming inside of their respective target times. Gareth finished the course in 2’07” and Owen came in at 1’48”. Both really impressive performances.

It was only the second year of the Hackney Half and it’s already in the top ten half marathon events in the country. It’s likely to go from strength to strength as it’s a good, flat course circling around fashionable Hackney before skirting Victoria Park and then going through the Queen Elizabeth (Olympic) Park past all of the famous sites.

We’ll be putting a team in again next year and we already have our places secured. They’ll probably go pretty quickly so please don’t be shy and get in early!

Unfortunately the BMA camera was in ‘hissy fit’ mode yesterday and the pictures of Gareth and Owen at the finish are not usable. The picture above shows Owen with his wife Amy. They ran the London 10k for us, back in 2013, on their first wedding anniversary. Yesterday we discovered that Amy is 5 months pregnant with their first child so we offer them our congratulations and the very best of Bhopal wishes!
