International Day of Solidarity, August 28th 2012
Over the last few weeks we’ve been asking supporters to send in photo’s or short video’s, to show our protest at Dow’s sponsorship and involvement with the Olympic games and we need you to carry on this great work! The 28th of August marks the last day the Olympic torch is carried to London to start the Paralympics 2012.
Beginning in August 2011, The Bhopal Medical Appeal has been involved with efforts to highlight the profoundly inappropriate nature of Dow Chemical’s sponsorship of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We celebrate the Olympics, their ancient sanctity and nobility of spirit. We salute the Games that unite us all in delight at the health, strength, beauty and grace of the young contestants from around the world. All of these things the association with Dow therefore debases and disgraces.
If you can spare some time, please send us more of these wonderful images and messages of support and protest for our ‘International Day of Solidarity’ by the 28th August 2012. We need to show our protest at the ironically inappropriate decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) to allow Dow to sponsor London’s Paralympics.
In Bhopal, there is a torch lit parade being organised for the day and many have reported that they shall hold candle lit vigils across the globe and shall be sending their photos of these events to us. It need not take too much organising; it could simply be a photo of yourself with a candle and message of support, to a group photo or short film taken at the Olympic rings at the top of The Mound Edinburgh. We also have a memorial plaque for the victims the Bhopal gas disaster in Greyfriars Kirk, Edinburgh. Please send in your images to email@example.com.
If we get enough support we could attract interest from the press and strengthen our campaign, please take action and show your protest in solidarity with the world!
