Music

illustrators multi globe 250x233 Music bhopal medical appealThe Bhopal survivors have inspired artists and musicians around the globe, as well as creating their own music, some of which you can find on bhopal.fm.

We’re really happy to have the support of Illustrators, who approached the BMA upon hearing about the disaster for the first time. Only Human, was written in response to the shock Bella – lead singer – felt when she first heard about Bhopal and the fact that 26 years later people have no choice but to drink, cook and wash with the contaminated water. Their hope is that Only Human raises awareness of the continuing struggle of the Bhopalis and also funds for the medical work carried out by the Sambhavna Clinic and the Chingari Rehabilitation Centre. Illustrators are kindly donating the proceeds of Only Human downloads to the BMA: download here and donate £1 here.

Only Human

When you wake with a burn in your throat
When you try to breathe and you choke
One by one the pipes explode
Don’t be scared
We’re only human after all
We’re only human

Only human, aren’t we?
We’re only you and me
We’re only human

They will keep us from harm
So turn off the silent alarms
Napalm as the city sleeps
Don’t be scared
They’re only human after all
They’re only human

Only human, aren’t we?
Only you and me
We’re only human
Just trying to be

From Bella, Illustrators: The line ‘Napalm as the city sleeps’ is on the one hand a reference to the ‘sleeping city’ of Bhopal, but also a comment on Dow Chemical’s production of the compound Napalm B during the Vietnam War. The line suggests a parallel between the part Dow Chemical played in the atrocities committed in Vietnam and also the Bhopal disaster and its aftermath: both are cases of extraordinary abuse of power.
